Who is PwC Austria?

One of the world's leading audit and consulting firms — with five locations in Austria.

PwC Austria is part of the global PwC network with more than 370,000 employees worldwide. In Austria, more than 1,450 experts work across five locations — Vienna, Linz, Graz, Salzburg and Klagenfurt — in audit, tax and management consulting. The firm is led by around 70 partners.

PwC advises companies on digital transformation — from strategy to execution. The advisory team combines cross-industry expertise with technological depth. In that context, PwC Austria added UNOY to its platform portfolio: not as a technology vendor that is recommended onwards, but as a tool that the firm’s own advisors use in client projects.

Starting point

Consulting projects often end with a concept — not with a running solution.

When consultancies recommend that their clients automate operational processes, a second project begins on the client side: hunting for vendors, evaluating software, integrating, operating. The consultancy delivers a concept, but execution sits with the client — often without the necessary resources. Between strategic recommendation and operational result, a gap opens up.

At the same time, pressure is growing on consultancies to deliver not just concepts but measurable results. A strategy paper that ends up in a drawer creates no value. Clients increasingly expect their advisors not only to say what should change, but to show how it works — ideally with a working prototype.

The challenge for PwC: find a platform on which their own advisors can build workflow automations for clients — without a developer team, without a months-long implementation project, and with the governance a Big Four firm requires.

Why UNOY?

Why a Big Four consultancy is betting on UNOY.

PwC could have chosen any platform — or built one of its own. The reasons they chose UNOY are threefold. First, their advisors can build productive workflows without developers. That cuts the path from consulting concept to running result from months to weeks. Second, UNOY meets the governance requirements a Big Four firm imposes — GDPR compliance, EU hosting, a complete audit trail, no black box.

Third — and this is the decisive point — UNOY changes the consulting product itself. Instead of a strategy paper, PwC now delivers a working workflow. The client doesn’t just see what should change — they experience how it works. That’s a different conversation. And a different result.

For PwC, UNOY isn’t a tool they pass on. It’s the platform they work on themselves.

Insights

What we learned.

First: when advisors can build themselves, the quality of the consulting changes. It’s no longer enough to cite — you have to show that it works. That forces clarity in thinking and precision in execution. A workflow doesn’t lie. Whatever doesn’t work is visible.

Second: the boundary between consulting and execution shifts. In classic projects there’s a handover — from advisor to implementation team, from concept to IT. At PwC with UNOY this doesn’t happen. The same advisor who understands the process builds the workflow. That eliminates friction and misunderstandings.

Third: scaling works differently when the knowledge sits inside the platform. A workflow that an advisor built for one client can — with adjustments — be reused for the next. Over time, the consultancy builds up a portfolio of proven solutions, not just a body of experience.

Fourth: governance is not an obstacle, it’s a sales argument. In regulated industries — and PwC clients work almost exclusively in regulated environments — traceability of every step is not a nice-to-have. It is the precondition for the client to say yes at all.

Technical Deep Dive: how PwC uses the UNOY platform

expand_more

No-code workflow designer

Advisors model workflows visually — without developers, without code. The domain logic comes directly from consultants who know the use case.

Multi-tenant architecture

Each client project runs in its own isolated environment. Data and workflows of different clients are strictly separated.

Configurable business rules

Review logic, decision trees and rule sets are defined per project and can be adapted without technical changes.

GDPR-compliant EU hosting

All data is hosted and processed in the EU. No third-country transfers — a no-go for PwC client projects.

Complete audit trail

Every workflow step is logged: who triggered what when, which inputs were processed, which result was produced.

Reusable workflow templates

Workflows once built can be saved as templates and reused for similar client projects — with project-specific adjustments.

Roles and permissions management

Advisors, project managers and clients have different access rights. Who can see and edit what is governed at a granular level.

AI-assisted data processing

Where useful, AI models are used for extraction, classification and summarisation — always within the defined workflow frame.

Seamless handover to the client

After setup the workflow can be handed over to the client. The client operates it independently — without depending on the advisor.
