Who is FairPlane?

FairPlane is a the leading flight rights-Dienstleister in Europa. Since 2011 setzt the Company compensation claims after the EU-regulation 261/2004 through — at flight delays, Annullierungen and overbookings. As Prozessfinanzierer takes over FairPlane the entire risk: Customers zahlen only in Successsfall a Provision of 20–35%. The cases are of specialisedn contract attorneys processes.

FairPlane runs portals in Germany and Austria and maintains strategic partnerships with the ADAC and the Chamber of Labour — for both partners FairPlane runs individual, branded claims calculators under their own URL. The business model is successful: with 100,000 cases per year and a high rate of enforced claims, FairPlane has established itself as the market leader.

The problem

The heart of FairPlane is the claims calculator. It intakes cases, reviews claims legally, detects various claim options, asks the right follow-up questions and prepares everything so that lawyers can immediately establish and process a mandate. At its core, this is the work of a lawyer and an engineer — digitised in a single tool.

In the past, this system was developed and maintained by an external web agency. The problem: every legal change — new case law, changed deadlines, additional claim options — had to be drafted, commissioned and implemented as an engineering task. What was legally clear in an hour took weeks to implement.

Flexibility wasn't enough to meet regulatory requirements. And for a workflow that constantly has to track current law and adapt to it, missing flexibility isn't just annoying — it's a business risk.

Why UNOY?

The decisive advantage: in UNOY’s no-code workflow designer the legal expertise is documented directly. Every decision in the workflow is traceable — on the basis of which standard, valid at which point in time, the calculator made a particular decision. For a regulated workflow like flight-rights review that is not optional — it is essential.

At the same time, domain experts can make adjustments themselves — without developer tickets, without delay. New case law? Implemented in hours, not weeks. The legal certainty and flexibility FairPlane needs are guaranteed.

And with UNOY a polished design can be built. The claims calculator runs under individual URLs for different partners, captures digital signatures, sends confirmation emails and measures via Google Analytics how users interact with the calculator — all from one system. That saves not just engineering time, but also operating cost and removes dependency on external agencies.

What we learned

FairPlane was one of the first customers to put UNOY into full production — with 100,000 cases per year and partners like ADAC and the Chamber of Labour. That shaped us as a platform.

First: regulated workflows are not a special case — they're the norm. What FairPlane needs is what every regulated practice that works with applicable law needs: documented decision logic that can be changed without rebuilding the entire system. Yesterday's rule isn't tomorrow's rule. A platform that doesn't represent that becomes a risk.

Second: dependency on external agencies is the actual problem. FairPlane had a functional solution — but every legal change had to be drafted as an engineering task. What was clear to a lawyer in an hour took weeks to implement. The fix wasn’t better technology, it was a platform domain experts can work on themselves.

Third: multi-tenant capability decides whether you scale. FairPlane doesn’t run a single claims calculator — it runs individual portals for different partners, each with its own branding, URL and adjustments. The fact that all of this is possible from a single base workflow lets FairPlane stand up new partnerships without starting from scratch every time.
