Who is Zero Insurance?
Zero Insurance is one of the leading service providers for outsourced insurer operations. The company handles end-to-end claims processing — from the initial loss report to the final handover of structured data to the insurer. Zero Insurance does not act as a risk carrier, but as a specialised process partner. Its services span the property-and-casualty, health and life lines and are delivered both nationally and internationally. The portfolio covers everything an insurer typically does, with the exception of risk-bearing and tasks that require a statutory licence.
The business model is successful because Zero Insurance scales continuously while strictly meeting regulatory requirements. As the insurer portfolio has grown, so has the complexity: different insurers with different requirements, multilingual documentation, cross-time-zone processes — everything has to run synchronously and faultlessly. That is no longer manageable with manual workflows.
The problem
Classic claims handling was manual: a case came in, document requests went out by email, approvals were tracked in spreadsheets and email chains, data was manually copied and forced into structures so it could be handed over to the insurer. If a document was missing, it had to be chased again. If a process step was skipped, it was unclear who was responsible. Error rates were high, turnaround times fluctuated, and there was no overview.
The biggest challenge: every insurer had slightly different requirements for document types, deadlines, formats and structure. Integrating new requirements meant going through every process by hand and adjusting logic that lived only in the staff’s heads. There was no central place where the business logic was documented. Compliance audits were a nightmare: where was the traceability? When exactly had which staff member signed off?
For a service provider like Zero Insurance that has to scale, this model was unsustainable. Every new insurer meant manual work. Every adaptation meant risk. And in a regulated market where nothing may go wrong, missing automation isn’t just annoying — it’s a business risk.

Why UNOY?
The decisive advantage: Zero Insurance was able to model its entire claims-handling logic in the UNOY workflow designer — in such a way that every work step is traceably documented. Who made which decision? Which rule was applied when? That is not only indispensable for compliance audits, it is also the foundation for continuous optimisation and for the conversation with new insurers.
At the same time, Zero Insurance’s business experts can make adjustments themselves, without waiting for external development. A new requirement from an insurer? It is implemented in the workflow designer within hours, not weeks. New document types? New sign-off steps? Insurer-specific data formats? All without an external agency, all under control. That is an enormous scalability and flexibility feature for a service provider.
Another major benefit: UNOY enables full traceability for regulatory audits. Every loss notice, every requested document, every sign-off is documented. The audit trail is seamless. That is not only compliance — it is also marketing: new insurer partners react with trust to that level of process quality. With UNOY, Zero Insurance is independent of external agencies and can flexibly adapt its processes to regulatory and business changes.
What we learned
Zero Insurance was the first customer to build and operate UNOY entirely on its own. That fundamentally changed how we think about the platform.
First: self users don’t need a simpler platform — they need a more traceable one. Zero Insurance had the expertise to model the claims logic itself. What they needed was a system in which every decision is documented — not for us, but for their insurer partners. Traceability was not a technical feature, it was a business argument.
Second: flexibility beats perfection. Insurers have different requirements — different data formats, different sign-off levels, different document types. Instead of building a perfect solution for one insurer, Zero Insurance built a base workflow and adapts it per partner. That was only possible because the workflow designer is built for domain experts, not for developers.
Third: compliance is not a cost — it is a sales argument. The seamless audit trail UNOY produces automatically was originally a regulatory obligation. In practice it became the strongest argument when winning new insurer partners. Whoever can show how every claims case is processed earns trust faster than with any pitch deck.
